Description of the area.
Mattinata, City of Gargano National Park, is located in the Gulf of Manfredonia, which is about 17km and 40Km from Vieste, tip of the promontory. Besides the crystal clear sea and white cliffs dotted with beautiful sea caves, the land of Mattinata goes so far as the edge of the Forest Umbra, green lung of the Gargano and then presenting an exceptional variety of natural environments. They are now famous the hundreds of varieties of orchids that can be admired in the spring.
You can also admire an archaeological site dating from the Paleolithic consisting of hundreds of tombs carved into the limestone of Monte Saraceno, overlooking the beach.
Another archaeological site of national importance are the ruins of the Benedictine Abbey of Mt Sacro (874m), meta of campaigns of excavations by the German University of Nuremberg.
